However, the initial optimistic results from eucalyptus plantings in the Ethiopian landscape soon proved to be a hasty and imprudent misconception, as this Australian tree's poisoning of the Ethiopian environment not only harmed the native ecology but also dramatically reduced the country's freshwater resources.
